Nantucket Lighthouse School is seeking a part-time Director of Horticulture in conjunction with the school’s Russell Morash Chair in Childhood Horticulture for the 2016-2017 school year.
Duties include serving as an ambassador of the Russell Morash Chair in Childhood Horticulture; teaching nine classes weekly; developing weekly lesson plans and a year-long horticulture curriculum; collaborating with faculty on curriculum integration as well as garden-related holiday gifts, Nantucket Garden Festival, Yuletide Fair and Farmer’s Market efforts; collaborating with non-profits on horticulture-related field trips and citizen science initiatives; maintaining the school’s Educational Garden, Pollinator Garden and Greenhouse (weeding, watering, mulching); supervising school composting efforts; developing relationships with community resources and garden-related vendors; contributing a monthly update for the school’s newsletter; and reporting to Nantucket Lighthouse School’s Director of Advancement.
The ideal candidate has experience working with children in a group setting, possesses a strong horticulture background, has experience operating a greenhouse and can work creatively and independently. This position is 12 hours per week with a structured weekly schedule that corresponds with class scheduling. Competitive pay based on experience.
