Looking for a winter project?
I’m on Nantucket for two weeks and selling my 1997 Kinetic moped as a fixer-upper. This bike has seen me through a lot of great times but age and neglect have left it needing a mechanically-inclined owner who will bring it back to its glory.
The good: it started up last time I brought it out, which was this summer. When it runs, it really moves–would do 35mph with two people. It is made in India and parts are available at a bunch of websites. It’s also easy to work on–it’s basically a lawnmower with big wheels. Oil, belt, etc can all be bought locally at auto parts stores. Accessories (turn signals, pedals, headlight) are all generic.
The bad: it won’t run for longer than a minute or so before bogging down. Maybe the carb just needs to be cleaned. The rear wheel is bent slightly, which is only noticeable at low speed but really should be fixed. The headlight is cracked from being knocked around in the shed.
Selling as-is because, well, if I could guarantee it worked, I wouldn’t be selling it!
