Part-Time Therapeutic Mentor (20 hours a week)

Fairwinds-Nantucket’s Counseling Center is seeking a Therapeutic Mentor (TM) for a part time position. Ideal candidates should be self-directed, motivated, creative and have experience mentoring youth.

Therapeutic Mentor’s offer structured, one-to-one, strength-based support services for youth (up to age 21) for the purpose of addressing communication, daily-living, and social needs. Services are provided in any setting where the youth resides, such as the home and in various community settings. Therapeutic Mentoring services include:

• Support, coach and train youth in age-appropriate behaviors
• Interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving
• Address age appropriate social functioning
• Engage the youth in activities that teach alternative strategies
• Meet with the youth’s family to share skill building activities, update progress and engage in treatment goals

Identified goal(s) are documented and reported regularly to the youth’s current providers and referrals can only be made if the youth is engaged in out-patient services (Clinician/Therapist), In-Home Therapy (IHT) or Intensive Care Coordination (ICC). TM does not provide childcare or respite. TM does not meet in the family home unless parent or guardian is present (unless treatment team has approved an appropriate substitute).

Required Skills
• Candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both professional and paraprofessionals, families, and other service providers
• Candidate will positively engage youth in social, recreational, educational and vocational activities.
• Candidate will provide services in a professional manner ensuring privacy and safety while adhering to the Wraparound process’ principles and respecting the youth and family’s dignity and right to choice
• Participates in weekly supervision with a licensed clinician
• Builds and adjusts schedule as necessary to meet the needs of persons served. Afternoon/evening hours are required. Candidate must be flexible and willing to schedule and hold appointments on weekends based upon the needs of the families served
• Attends organization required trainings
• Upholds values and mission of Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI)
• Computer literacy and skill with related software
• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for client transportation
• Bilingual Preferred

Required Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required in a Human Services field from an accredited university and minimum of one year experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth, or
Associate’s Degree in a human services field from an accredited school and one (1) year of experience working with the target population; or
High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth

• Qualified candidate must be a team player and have good communication and organizational skills
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Unfortunately, adults currently in treatment or parents of children currently in treatment at Fairwinds are not eligible to apply.
